JLC Calls on Israeli Government to Stop Settler Violence and Prosecute the Perpetrators

In the Occupied West Bank, Jewish extremist settlers are continuing to attack, harass, and blockade Palestinian individuals and communities.With the tacit support of Israel’s Government and security forces, Palestinian Arab villagers are being prevented from harvesting their crops, and Arab villages and homes are being bulldozed with impunity.The Government has just asked for private construction companies to bid on the rights to build more than 3,400 new housing units in the Occupied West Bank.This new construction will effectively cut the West Bank in half, and will bring a dramatic and ominous change in the status quo – making it all-but-impossible for a viable Palestinian state to emerge.
The Jewish Labor Committee believes that the security of the State of Israel and that of the Palestinian people are intimately entwined.We call for an immediate end to these attacks, and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. Settler violence and the forces within Israel that aid and abet it, undermine every prospect for peace, coexistence and a negotiated political solution, still the surest hope for peace.
While the immediate victims of the Jewish settler violence in the West Bank are Palestinians and their communities, Israel is also harmed. Its conduct in the West Bank has set off a torrent of protest worldwide. Let us be clear - settler violence and the policies of the Netanyahu Government undermine the prospects for a secure future for the State of Israel.
