Job Title: Executive Director

Location: Jewish Labor Committee National Office, New York City
The Jewish Labor Committee: As the voice of the Jewish community in the labor movement and the voice of the labor movement in the Jewish community, the JLC engages in programs of value to both communities. The JLC is a unique organization that brings together the organized labor movement and the organized Jewish community to promote workers’ rights, civil rights and human rights in the workplace and the community-at-large; to combat manifestations of anti-Semitism and all other forms of discrimination, bigotry and prejudice; to strengthen the historic relationship between American and Israeli trade unions, and to promote a just peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Position Overview: The Executive Director is responsible for helping develop and overseeing the JLC program; supervising and supporting the small national and regional staff; overseeing and meeting fundraising goals; overseeing administrative and governance tasks. The Executive Director will liaise with international and national Jewish community organizations and leadership as well as with international and national labor leaders and organizations. The Executive Director must be a highly motivated and an effective manager, eager to promote social justice in the U.S. as well as support for a democratic Israel and a negotiated two-state solution with the Palestinians. The position is located in New York City and reports to the JLC President and to the JLC Executive Committee.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategy:
• Play an instrumental role in crafting and implementing the JLC’s short-term and long-term program
• Develop strategy for expanding membership

Fundraising:
• Supervise the annual fund raising dinner
• Write grant proposals
• Explore additional funding sources

Governance and Administration:
• Organize regular meetings of the Executive Committee and other governance bodies
• Supervise the staff in New York and in the field offices. Manage salary, pension, health care and other administrative issues

Qualifications:
• Strong commitment to the JLC’s mission
• Comfortable working in a small organization with a fast-paced environment
• An understanding of the labor movement and the organized Jewish community
• Ability to represent the JLC before various organizations
• Ability to fundraise
• Ability to manage staff
• Willingness to do limited travel

Compensation and Hours:
This is a full-time position. Salary is competitive with other small non-profit organizations and appropriate to experience and includes health benefits.
